Ossex is the Central Hub of Tenebrous Isle. As the official wiki puts it: “Ossex is the Central Hub of Tenebrous Isle. Return here to outfit yourself and scout for clues.” It’s the isle’s only major city — a layered “ant farm” of merchants, side quests, workers and children, and the only area still running at full power while the rest of the island’s failing Spark Generators leave their regions in darkness.
Structurally, Ossex works like a Souls-style nexus. Reviewers compared it directly to the Nexus in Demon’s Souls: Ossex “functions as a nexus point… with most dungeons accessible by striking out in a specific direction from the town center.” You’ll keep coming back here between dungeons to spend Bones, swap your build and pick your next target.
Where to go from Ossex
Each of the six Spark Generator dungeons sits far from the city in roughly a different compass direction, and the fountain in the center of town spells it out: it has six lightbulbs around it, and “each one roughly corresponds to what direction each dungeon is in.” You can clear the first four in any order — the game only nudges, it doesn’t gate.
- East (right) exit → Eastern Heath: Grassland → Mourner’s Mile → Queensbury Crypt (the recommended first dungeon).
- West/left → Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge, which branches to the Backwaters → Nox’s Bayou and to Kindlewood → Septemburg.
- South gate → Southern Outskirts, the route toward Bone Beach (via Sandfalls).
- Train → Coltrane Peak, the convenient way north once the train is running.
Shops & services
Ossex is where every Bone you earn gets spent. Legovich’s Arms is the blacksmith and weapon shop (buy and swap your five weapons, then return for upgrades). The Trinket Bazaar / Lady Susan handles trinkets, the Emporium in City Center sells your permanent stat upgrades, and Bone Up stations level Attack, Defense and Sidearm Damage. A pawn shop buys back unwanted gear, and the Hollower’s Guild Hall (right of the main entrance) is where you expand the Guild to upgrade your Underlab base across the whole island.
Fast travel from Ossex
The train station at Ossex: Bowery (north, near the Western Hills exit) is your earliest fast-travel link. Once you’ve donated a cumulative 10,000 Bones to restore the train, you can ride freely between all five stations. Note that the large mirror in the Ossex castle to the north is the exit from the Astral Orrery — you can’t use it to teleport into the Orrery; for that you need the mirrors hidden out in the dungeons.
